I absolutely love teaching school! I feel like I was born to teach. This is my sixteenth year at Schulter and I cannot see myself teaching any other place. It is so much fun to see the children coming in the library who are children of students I once taught here. I believe that enpowering a student with the ability to read and instilling in each child a lifelong love of reading is one of the most important gifts a teacher or librarian can give. I am the librarian for the entire school district. Since I officially semi-retired this past summer, I am now only working from 8 am to noon each Monday through Friday at the school. I also remain the Federal Programs Coordinator for the school district.
I first went to college at Seminole State College, although it was Seminole Junior College back then. I received an Associate's Degree there and went on to Edmond to the University of Central Oklahoma, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I returned there to Edmond two years later and graduated with a Master's Degree in Information Studies (Library Science). I also have post-graduate work in bilingual education, focusing on the Creek (Mvskoke) language.
My family is very important to me. I have two sons and six grandsons, all living in either Oklahoma or Arkansas. I also have two granddaughters here in Oklahoma and I have two brothers. One brother lives in Iowa and one brother lives in Oklahoma. My mother also lives in Iowa. In addition, I have several nieces and nephews, living in Iowa and Oklahoma. We always love to get together and do fun things.
I stay VERY busy at school; however, my private life is also very busy. I am a member of the Okemah United Pentecostal Church and I have been a Sunday School teacher there for about 40 years. I presently teach the 10 and 11 year olds at church. I especially enjoy camping, reading, sewing, knitting, and gardening. This past summer, I went with some family members on a camping vacation through nine states. I even learned how to fish! I also enjoy watching the exciting basketball games at Schulter.
I am truly blessed!
