Students in Mr. Mayhugh’s and Mrs. Skinner’s classes recently got to experience something egg-stra special! Over the past few weeks, they have been incubating eggs in their classrooms and patiently waiting for them to hatch.

The wait is finally over the chicks have arrived! 🐥 Students have loved watching the hatching process and learning about the life cycle firsthand. It has been such a fun and exciting learning experience for everyone involved.

Be sure to check out these adorable pictures of our newest little visitors!

In this experiment conducted by Ms. Evans, the focus is on teaching students the values of kindness and respect through the use of apples as a metaphorical tool. The experiment involves three distinct apples: the Nice apple, the Control apple, and the Bad apple. For the Nice apple, students are instructed to only express positive remarks, emphasizing kindness. In contrast, the Control apple receives neither positive nor negative comments, serving as a neutral reference. The Bad apple is subjected to negative comments exclusively, where students are encouraged to say only unkind things. Over the course of the experiment, a noticeable difference becomes evident; the Bad apple begins to rot, illustrating the impact of negative interactions, while the Nice apple remains fresh and lively due to the continuous positive reinforcement it receives. This experiment effectively demonstrates how fostering kindness can lead to significant positive outcomes, ultimately teaching students the importance of respectful communication and the effects their words can have on others.

Today some of our students had the opportunity to help with feeding our veterans. It was an awesome experience, and our students had a blast helping out and giving back to those who have served our country. We are incredibly proud of our students and the way they represent our school and community. Most importantly, we want to say thank you to all of our veterans for your service and sacrifice. We are truly grateful!

Today we had an awesome guest speaker at our school! Michelle Scheeland came to talk with our high school students and 8th graders about her incredible journey of becoming an acquired savant. She also brought along Dominique Castaneda through a video call, which made the experience even more exciting.

Michelle explained the difference between a savant and an acquired savant. A savant is usually born with amazing abilities in certain areas, like math, music, or art, while an acquired savant develops those abilities later in life, often after a brain injury or major neurological event. It was really interesting and eye opening for our students to learn about how the brain works in such unique ways.

Dominique shared the website he created, dominiquecastaneda.com, and students got to check it out during the presentation. It’s super cool, creative, and interactive—and he would love for everyone to try it out!

We are so thankful that Michelle took the time out of her day to share her story with us. It was an inspiring experience, and our students really enjoyed it!
